Haris Seferović appeared to have a bad angle at the goal and a couple of passing options when he picked up the ball on the left flank in the 50th minute, but instead opted to hit an audacious half-volley with his left foot from 35 yards. Incredibly, he connected perfectly and hit a rocket of a shot past Anthony Lopes, who was left stunned.
Lyon nearly got back into the game in the 74th minute when Bravo was forced into a save on Miguel Lopes, but the home side wasn't hopeful of a comeback for long. Just one minute later, Milan Biševac picked up his second booking of the game and was sent off.
The visitors will head to the Basque Country as very heavy favorites to advance on the back of their two-goal lead, but they were unlucky not to add to their advantage.
